Adoption Process
After browsing through our available dogs, if you find a dog you think suits you and your lifestyle you will need to submit an application form (below). Alternatively, you can fill in the form to gain pre-approval if a dog that suits you comes available (speeding up the process!).
If we believe you may be a suitable match we will contact you to arrange an interview and/or a time to meet the dog and foster.
We will conduct a property check (to ensure your property is suitable and safe), police check and contact your references prior to confirming adoption.
If selected for adoption, we require the adoption fee to be paid in full, we will then organize a time between you and the foster for you to bring your baby home!
Adoption FAQ
Do you adopt outside of Christchurch?
Yes, we are happy to help organize transport of dogs to anywhere in New Zealand. However, not all dogs will be suitable to transport, this will be stated on the dogs profile.
Can I still adopt if I haven't owned a dog before?
Yes!
I'm looking for a specific gender, age or colour.
We come in contact with a range of dogs including different colours, breed mixes, genders and ages. If there is a specific dog you are after, fill in the above application form stating what you are looking for, and if a suitable dog comes along we will contact you.
Can I breed my rescue dog?
No! All our dogs will leave our care spayed or neutered.
Do you provide ongoing support to adoptees?
Yes of course! We want what is best for our dogs, if you need help with anything please get in contact! We will also add you to our CBCH adoptee facebook group so you can share photos, updates, get any advice, or as anything to us or other adoptees!
Do you adopt dogs to families with kids, other dogs, cats or any other animals?
Yes, but this entirely depends on the dog and its requirements.
Can I still adopt a dog if my property isn't big or not fully fenced?
Depends on the dog and what they require, apply anyway!
Can we meet the dogs before we apply to adopt?
Unfortunately we don't have the facilities to cater to meet and greets. As we are a "no center rescue" all of our dogs are in foster care, which creates too much work for our fosters to juggle. We may, however, bring the dogs to adoption events where you can meet them there.

I rent my home, can I still adopt?
Yes! But you must have the Landlord Form filled in and submitted with your application

$400 dogs up to 7 years
$250 dogs 7 years+
$300 reactive dogs
All dogs leave the rescue desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, vet checked, up to date on flea and worm treatments, and with a vet book
